Overview: BC' William Green from All-American to All-Bonehad

Boston College’s William Green was suspended this week just before the team’s biggest game of the year because he violated the always mysterious "team rules". Green, who began the weekend as the nation’s leading rusher, missed the biggest game of the season, as the Eagles took on the #1 ranked Miami Hurricanes. According to the Boston Globe, this absolute moron left campus just days before this huge battle with the ‘Canes, for a trip to hometown Atlantic City and he didn’t tell anybody about his visit. He missed school, which is a huge no-no for Eagle coach Tom O’Brien, and was immediately suspended, making him unavailable for that conference clash with Miami.

The timing of course couldn’t have been worse. The Boston College sports information department picked that same week to send about 600 promotional mailings to sportswriters and other such influential people around the country, hyping Green for the Doak Walker Award, an All-American consideration and even the Heisman Trophy. Everything was in place for the junior running back. ABC sent it’s #1 team of Brent Musberger and Gary Danielson. National journalists were also coming to watch Green at the friendly confines of Chestnut Hill. Who knows. If Green could have put up over 100 yards against the rather staunch Miami run stop defense and scored a touchdown or two, he might have been invited to personally sit in on the Heisman ceremony.

Instead, Green sat alone in his dorm room wearing street clothes instead of his football uniform, as his team almost pulled off the upset against Miami. Instead of expressing remorse to his teammates and to the school for his moronic actions, Green actually decided to decline on his senior season, where he could have had a legitimate shot at the Heisman and quite possibly a much higher draft spot, but instead he made himself eligible for the 2002 NFL draft, telling people close to him that he was sick and tired of O’Brien’s militant stance towards certain issues.

While others around the nation are being considered for All-American’s this season, Mr. Green is certainly my unanimous choice for the All-Bonehead team. Willie, you certainly are a FEW TOMATOS SHORT OF A THICK SAUCE
