Overview: A Three Quarter Bill

This week, I am dedicating this column to the entire Buffalo Bills football team.

Buffalo has looked horrible this season. They entered Sunday’s contest with a 1-8 won/loss record but they were playing the hated Miami Dolphins, and with the playoffs all but over for this season, a win against this divisional rival could have been their "Super Bowl".

Well the Bills certainly played like it was the Championship for the first three quarters and they found themselves up by 11 heading into the final frame. In fact, Travis Henry’s TD with just over 8:00 left in the game gave Buffalo a 10 point lead. The events that transpired after that however, left me shaking my head.

Kicker Jake Arians came out after Henry’s touchdown, to kick the extra point and that one single point would have given Buffalo the all important 11 point lead! Well Arians missed that point-after and if that wasn’t bad enough, this absolute moron sends the following kickoff out of bounds, giving Miami amazing field position, starting at their own 40 yard line.

Miami then goes out and scores a touchdown, cutting Buffalo’s lead to three points with just over 4:00 to play in the game. But it was still the Bills’ game to lose! They would surely turn to the ground game, a part of their game that was very impressive for the first 3+ quarters. This would enable Buffalo to take time off the clock and more importantly, make Miami use their remaining two timeouts.

After a first down run of about one yard, Miami called the timeout, but then instead of going back to the ground and taking more time off the clock, Buffalo decided to throw the ball twice, both falling incomplete, therefore taking barely any time off the clock and more importantly, allowing Miami to keep that last timeout.

Miami was able to go down the field and kick the game-tying field goal, but alas Bills’ fans, there was still time for Buffalo to march down the field and kick their own field goal, this one being a game-winner.

On the ensuing kickoff however, Buffalo’s Nate Clemons fumbled the ball and Miami recovered on Buffalo’s 42 yard line. 17 seconds later, Dolphin QB Jay Fiedler found WR Chris Chambers for the 32 yard strike and the eventual game-winner.

Do not think for one minute that this is sour grapes on my part because I am some big Buffalo Bills’ fan. This couldn’t be further from the truth. This article is as objective as they come. The fact is I am one of the biggest Miami Dolphin fans on the face of this planet and it does my heart good to watch those hated Bill’s fumble and stumble their way through the season.

There are many reasons why a team such as Buffalo has only one win on the season! But after reading all of the Bills’ miscues from Sunday, let’s just say, the biggest reason is because the entire organization is a FEW TOMATO’S SHORT OF A THICK SAUCE
